Tobi Peter Introduces His Next Chapter with “Faaja”
Featuring Soulaar, the soulful new single pairs hypnotic 3-Step rhythms with Yoruba storytelling in an ode to ambition, perseverance and the pursuit of a better life.
Nigerian artiste, producer and DJ Tobi Peter introduces his next chapter with “Faaja,” a soulful new collaboration with Soulaar that brings together warm electronic production, hypnotic rhythms and deeply expressive Yoruba vocals.
At its heart, “Faaja” tells the story of the everyday hustler; working, dreaming and pushing towards a life beyond the rat race. It is a record about ambition and perseverance, but equally about the freedom and enjoyment that sits on the other side of the struggle.
The title itself captures that sentiment. “Faaja” speaks to enjoyment, leisure and living well — the reward after work and the freedom to finally enjoy what you have built. That duality runs throughout the record: hustle and reward, reflection and celebration, soul and movement.
Built on a warm, soulful 3-Step foundation, “Faaja” allows its Yoruba storytelling to sit at the centre of the record rather than simply function as a sonic accent. Soulaar's emotive vocals give voice to a deeply relatable desire to make something of yourself, while Tobi's production transforms that aspiration into something uplifting, communal and made to move to.
For Tobi Peter, “Faaja” also represents a significant step in establishing a musical identity that extends beyond the DJ booth. His experience as a DJ remains integral to his artistry, giving him an instinctive understanding of rhythm, movement and how music connects with people in real time. Increasingly, however, that understanding is becoming the foundation for a growing catalogue and sonic world of his own.
Rather than defining his music by geography, Tobi draws from the interconnected rhythms, traditions and contemporary club cultures shaping African electronic music today. “Faaja” is an expression of that exchange through his own perspective: bringing Yoruba language and storytelling into conversation with soulful electronic production while remaining rooted in his own experiences and musical instincts.
“Faaja” is really about that dream we all have of getting to the other side of the hustle,” says Tobi Peter. “You work, you push, you keep believing that eventually you'll get to a place where you can breathe and actually enjoy what you've built. I wanted the record to carry that feeling — something soulful, but something that still makes you move.”
The result is a record that comfortably inhabits multiple spaces. “Faaja” can soundtrack a quiet sunset as easily as it can find its way into the middle of a DJ set — introspective without becoming heavy, uplifting without losing the depth of its message.
More importantly, “Faaja” signals where Tobi Peter is headed next.
While audiences may already know him through his work as a DJ, this next chapter places greater emphasis on Tobi Peter the artiste and producer; building a catalogue, developing a recognisable sonic identity and creating a musical world that extends beyond the booth. His relationship with the dancefloor remains central to that story, but increasingly becomes a lens through which he creates rather than the limit of how his artistery is defined.
“Faaja” by Tobi Peter featuring Soulaar is available on all major streaming platforms from August 28th, 2026.
