It’s Headies season once again and social media is abuzz with the release of the list of nominees, some of them public figures while the others aren’t quite as known. But one thing is sure, everyone is going to be getting their dues during the award season.
While we are eager to see artistes get recognized for their hard work during the year, one worrying fact has also come to our notice. Has the Headies changed a few of its rules without notifying the public?
The fact is glaring in Odumodulvck's nomination for the Rookie of the Year award. One of Headies rules for that category is that nominees for the category must not have released an album; a rule that disqualifies Odumodulvck since he already dropped ‘Time & Chance (Deluxe)’ in 2021.
The album spent two weeks on the Albums Chart and peaked at No. 46, so it isn’t the case that the album was released in obscurity.
Suprisingly, Odumodublvck isn’t the only nominee under this category who doesn’t belong there. Eltee Skhillz is another nominee who dropped an album, ‘Body of Work’ in the year of review.
It is important that the Headies clarify the rules, so their audience isn’t mistaken as to the level of attention they pay to their work.
