Tiwa Savage’s rise on several charts in Nigeria following “Who Is Your Guy (Remix)” earns her manager, Vannessa Amadi the title of Executive of the Week.

In the weeks leading up to the release of the remix for Spyro’s “Who Is Your Guy,” it seemed like the track had hit its peak on the Official Nigeria Top 100. It peaked at No. 6 on the Top 100 in February but it immediately dropped to No. 10 the following week and it spent another two weeks at the position.

However, immediately the remix it dropped; it entered a new peak of No. 4 on last week’s Top 100 – becoming Spyro’s top five hit and Tiwa Savage’s highest charting single as a featured act. The idea of putting a major artiste has been used as a strategy to increase the reach of a bubbling song – and ultimately rise on the charts but with audience left with the feeling like it was a guest verse they didn’t necessarily need. However, few remixes have had such commercial and critical success like Tiwa Savage’s epic guest verse. The song has reached No. 1 on the official radio chart in Nigeria - which made Tiwa Savage the first female artiste to have multiple No. 1 hits on radio ("Loaded" with Asake also topped the radio chart in 2022).

In this interview with Vannessa Amadi; she talks about her journey in music, working with numerous acts over the years, Tiwa Savage’s hunger, plans for 2023 and more.

TTC: Please introduce yourself and what you do

Amadi-Ogbonna: I’m Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Talent Manager and Public Relations specialist.

TTC: How long have you been working in music? 

Amadi-Ogbonna: I’ve worked across the music industry for 25 years now. During that time I’ve been fortunate to have worked and positively contributed to the success of a number of artists and brands including Davido, Whitney Houston, Tiwa Savage, The MOBO Awards, Estelle, Ashluxe and Genevieve Nnaji to name a few.

TTC: You are Tiwa Savage's manager, how has it been working with such a massive talent over the years? 

Amadi-Ogbonna: I initially started as Tiwa's PR and for the past 5 years, I’ve held the role as her Manager. It’s been an honour of a lifetime working with Tiwa. She’s one of, if not THE hardest working client I have. Her tenacity, drive and passion for her craft is unmatched.

TTC: Tiwa Savage has been on some notable features these past few weeks, one of which is "Who's your guy Remix" with Spyro, how did this collaboration happen? 

Amadi-Ogbonna: The collaboration with Spyro on “Who’s Your Guy Remix” actually came via media blogger Tunde Ednut. Tiwa called me one night and said that Tunde suggested that she jumped on the track. It was a no brainer really, Tiwa has this magical music touch - especially with remixes - so I knew she would take what was already a big record to the next level. 

TTC: "Who's your guy Remix" is at a new peak of No. 4 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 Chart, and we can agree that the climb is partly due to Tiwa Savage's feature, did your team expect the kind of numbers the Remix pulled?

Amadi-Ogbonna: The remix has been well received and also has the No.1 spot on radio across Nigeria. Everyone involved is grateful so see the growth so far whilst knowing it hasn’t reached it full potential yet.

TTC: Another release, "Stamina" is projected to do very well on the Charts, it's a big feat to have talents like Ayra and Young jonn in one song, can you share your expectations of the song?

Amadi-Ogbonna: Stamina is one of those special records that we both knew would be an instant hit. The powerful combination of Tiwa’s quality vocals and with Ayras energy and Jonns delivery makes ‘Stamina’ a great record. I expect the song to do well both locally and globally. 

TTC: What more can we be expecting from Tiwa Savage and the team this year?

Amadi-Ogbonna: You can expect a lot more music from Tiwa this year, including a ‘project’ for sure. You can expect to see a global tour, more brand collaborations and partnerships in the beauty and fashion space. 

This year Tiwa will star in her first feature film ‘Water & Garri’ which we are all super excited about. This is something Tiwa has wanted to do for a while so I’m glad we got it done. The film is directed by the great Meji Alabi and Exec Produced by Tiwa, Myself and Jimi Adesanya.
