For the first time ever, TurnTable will unveil an authoritative chart ranking the top songs that are at least five years old.
The new weekly charts will give an accurate representation of the most enduring old songs in Nigeria. The chart will employ same multi-metric methodology as the Official Top Streaming Songs– a combination of all streaming platforms based on tier-based system.
Launching later this week (Wednesday, February 8, 2023) and it will be named the TurnTable Top Catalog Songs and it will be published every Wednesday. The move to launch a weekly chart focused on catalog songs is a result of the resurgence of several songs on streaming platforms and eventually radio – almost usually prompted by Tik Tok and other video-sharing platforms.
“Part of our work as a standard music chart publication in Nigeria is to study what the market is saying and use that to inform our decision to know what next to do. And a weekly chart showing what song is coming back on the charts after several years presents new perspective into music consumption,” comments Head of Operation at TurnTable Charts, Ayomide Oriowo.
The first chart will make use of the January 27 – February 2 tracking week.
“We’ve been discussing the idea of a catalog-focused charts for a few years now. We have also had a category for catalog songs on the Year-End Charts for 2020 and 2021 too. So we feel that this is the right time for the launch of a weekly chart. It will be exciting to see how fans react to this information. We decided to use streaming only as the chart metric is consumption-focused,” adds Kayode Babatola, Head of Charts at TurnTable Charts.
