August 2024 marks a pivotal moment in the Nigerian music scene with the release of his debut single, “Awolowo.”

“Awolowo” is more than just a song—it’s a heartfelt manifesto. Created in June with his close creative ally, Iykeelvis, the track is a compelling ode to finding solace amidst chaos and embracing the exuberance of youth. With its roots firmly planted in escapism, the song resonates with Fido’s quest to tune out distractions and focus on his personal journey. In his distinct two-minute soundscape, Fido’s voice emerges as a beacon of authenticity, reflecting on using cannabis to momentarily escape life's pressures while paying homage to the iconic Awolowo Road in Ikoyi.

Reflecting on his debut, Fido shares, “For me, music is about freedom and expression. With ‘Awolowo,’ I wanted to be true to myself and convey my feelings. While it might seem like a simple song about letting loose, there’s a deeper message within—it’s a piece of who I am.”

Producer Iykeelvis adds a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creation of the track. “Originally, ‘Awolowo’ was just a demo intended for a freestyle video. One evening, while experimenting with melodies on my DAW, I stumbled upon a bassline that sparked the song’s creation. Fido, who was engrossed in gaming at the time, immediately recognized its potential and crafted a unique, timeless vibe in just moments.”
