The TurnTable Top 50 also known as The Official Top 50 Albums Chart is the foremost albums chart in Nigeria. Launched on the 8th of November 2022, the chart has successfully provided insights into the performance of albums in the Nigerian music market, pointing out trends that were left to speculation previously. For example, the longest-charting album in chart history is a street-hop album, underscoring the importance of the sub-genre to the Afrobeats movement. This article highlights some insightful trends on the Official Top 50 Albums Chart in the past year.

Only 11 albums have peaked at No. 1 on the Official Top 50 Albums Chart. Seyi Vibez’s debut album ‘Billion Dollar Baby,’ is the longest-charting No. 1 album, in albums chart history. The album spent 14 weeks at the summit of the chart, and 38 weeks in total in the top 10. Davido’s Timeless is the second longest-charting No. 1 album, after spending 10 weeks atop the chart. Asake’s ‘Mr Money With The Vibe’ and ‘Work of Art’ both charted at No.1, for 6 weeks and 9 weeks respectively. Burna Boy’s I Told Them, Mohbad’s Blessed and ODUMODUBLVCK’s Eziokwu all spent three weeks at No. 1. ‘EZIOKWU’ is the longest-charting hip-hop album at No.1. Wizkid’s More Love, Less Ego, Omah Lay’s Boy Alone, Seyi Vibez’s Vibe Till Thy Kingdom Come and Olamide’s Unruly all spent 1 week at No. 1. Seyi Vibez and Asake have the most No. 1 albums (2).

There are ten albums that have remained on the chart since the inception of the Official Top 50 Albums Chart till date. This includes three street-hop albums; — Seyi Vibez’s ‘Billion Dollar Baby 2.0,’ Bella Shmurda’s ‘Hypertension,’ and Asake’s ‘Mr Money With The Vibe,’ one rap album — Black Sherif’s ‘The Villian I Never Was,’ and six Afropop albums — Omah Lay’s ‘Boy Alone,’ Rema’s ‘Rave & Roses,’ Burna Boy’s ‘Love, Damini,’ Young Jonn’s ‘Love is Not Enough Vol. 2,’ Victony’s ‘Outlaw,’ and Fireboy DML’s ‘Playboy.’

Despite spending only one week at No. 1, Omah Lay’s ‘Boy Alone’ has spent the most number of weeks in the top 10 of the chart (52 weeks). Asake’s ‘Mr Money With The Vibe’ comes in second having spent 44 weeks, while Seyi Vibez’s ‘Billion Dollar Baby 2.0’ completes the top 3 with 38 weeks. Burna Boy’s ‘Love Damini,’ Davido’s ‘Timeless,’ and Wizkid’s ‘More Love, Less Ego’ have all spent 34 weeks, 30 weeks, and 26 weeks respectively. Black Sherif’s The Villain I Never Was’ (25 weeks), Zinoleesky’s ‘Grit and Lust’ (25 weeks), and Asake’s ‘Work of Art’ (19 weeks) round up the top 10.

In 2023, Seyi Vibez’s ‘Billion Dollar Baby 2.0’ has spent the most weeks at No. 1 with 11 weeks. Davido’s ‘Timeless,’ and Asake’s ‘Work Of Art’ have spent 10 weeks and 9 weeks respectively. Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them,’ Mohbad’s ‘Blessed,’ and ODUMODUBLVCK’s ‘EZIOKWU’ have all spent 3 weeks at No. 1.
