In the three days following the death of Mohbad (September 12 - 14), on-demand streams of his music in Nigeria rose 702% according to TurnTable Database.
During the last tracking week of music in Nigeria, the singer’s catalog of songs collected 8.02 million on-demand streams - up from 999,000 on-demand streams the previous week (September 1 - 7). The majority of the streams accrued in the two and half days following his passing which saw his catalog jump over 702%.
Mohbad’s most-streamed songs during the period were; “Beast & Peace” (1.22 million on-demand streams, up 761% from 141,000), “Ask About Me” (1.06 million on-demand streams, up 407% from 208,000), “Peace” (837,000 on-demand streams, up 1378% from 57,000), “Pariwo” (707,000 on-demand streams, up 588% from 103,000) and “Sabi” (608,000 on-demand streams, up 973% from 57,000).
Before his death, Mohbad had two top 10 hits in “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” (peaked at No. 3 in 2020) and “Feel Good” (peaked at No. 7 in 2021). The week before on the Official Nigeria Top 100, the artiste had no entry on the chart. This week, he has eight entries (all re-entries) with “Ask About Me” at No. 22 the highest charting single.
Ahead of next week’s chart, industry forecasts suggest a possible No. 1 song and No. 1 album for Mohbad with ‘Blessed EP’ currently leading the race for No. 1 on next week’s albums chart. For the singles chart, “Ask About Me” is projected to reach the top 3 and increased streaming on Thursday, September 21 (a concert and candle light service in Lagos is set to hold the same day) could see the artiste record his first No. 1 entry on the singles chart.
His 2020 project ‘Light EP’ is also set to become the first 2020 title to enter the top ten of the Official Top 50 Albums Chart in Nigeria as it is tracking to finish in the top ten of next week’s chart.
Mohbad made his TurnTable debut in 2020 with “Ponmo Sweet” and “Over Hype.” The former also peaked at No. 24 on the singles chart in Nigeria. He has since earned 19 entries on the Official Nigeria Top 100 or the defunct TurnTable Top 50 (both chart are regarded as singles chart). “Feel Good” is his longest charting single in Nigeria - it spent 31 weeks on the chart while “KPK” with Rexxie spent 30 weeks on the chart.
