Simi and Naira Marley Lead YouTube NG First Half of the Year Charts
Naira Marley is the No. 1 artiste on YouTube NG during the tracking period of Jan. 3 through June 18, 2020. The total views for songs by the artiste (billed as the lead artiste and featured artiste) is 7.50 million views in that period.
Views used in this analysis are based on the weekly Top 100 charts (YouTube NG Top 100 Artiste, YouTube Top 100 Songs, and YouTube Top Videos) on YouTube NG. “YouTube NG” refers to YouTube views in Nigeria. (For the sake of clarity, this does not include views by songs and videos outside of the weekly top 100 in the year in review) The period in review encompasses the chart dated Jan. 3 – Jan. 9 through Jun. 12 – June 18, 2020.
Simi’s ‘Duduke’ official video, released on April. 19, bowed atop the list dated Apr 17 – Apr 23 with 272,000 views, which is the fourth-biggest views of the year for a video. The video has since earned 1.43 million views in total to rank as the No. 1 video on YouTube NG.
Naira Marley’s ‘Tesumole’ and Fireboy DML’s ‘Vibration’ rank as the No. 2 and No. 3 videos of 2020, so far, with 1.27 million and 990,000 views respectively.
Davido’s ‘1 Milli ’ and Mercy Chinwo’s ‘Obinasom’ complete the rest of the top five on YouTube NG Top Videos of 2020 with 964,000 and 868,000 views respectively.
Kizz Daniel’s ‘Madu’ was the leading video this time last year with 1.66 million views.
The top five on YouTube NG Top Videos all maintain their positions on the list of Top Songs except for Davido’s ‘1 Milli’ which ranks at No. 8 with 1.01 million views, replaced by Dj Neptune’s ‘Nobody’ featuring Joeboy & Mr. Eazi at No. 4 with 1.31 million views earned so far in 2020.
Simi’s ‘Duduke’ leads overall with 1.77 million views, Naira Marley’s ‘Tesumole’ follows at No. 2 with 1.37 million views and Fireboy DML’s Vibration at No. 3 with 1.34 million views.
Mercy Chinwo is the only artiste with two songs in the top ten credited as a lead artiste; ‘Obinasom’ at No. 5 with 1.10 million views and ‘Akamdinelu’ at No. 10 with 965,000 views.
Interestingly, Dj Neptune’s ‘Nobody’ featuring Joeboy & Mr. Eazi which ranks as No. 4 on YouTube Top Songs list is not in the Top 50 videos with the most views on YouTube NG.
A year ago at this point, Tim Godfrey’s ‘Narakele Mo’ featuring Travis Greene was the leading song on YouTube NG, with 3.35 million views.
Naira Marley is by far the top artiste on YouTube in 2020. So far, he leads with 7.50 million views on YouTube NG. He is the only artiste to have surpass 7 million in views on YouTube NG in the first half of the year.
Naira Marley Shines At the Top: The artiste has eight songs in the top 50 of YouTube NG Top Songs in 2020 and nine videos in the top 50 of YouTube NG Top Videos in 2020 (six in the top 20).
Davido follows at No. 2 with 5.65 million views in total and Mercy Chinwo at No. 3 with 5.26 million views. This makes the top three on this chart the only artiste to have least 5 million views on YouTube NG in the first half of the year.
Fireboy DML’s 4.24 million views puts him at No. 4 while Simi’s 3.95 million views is enough to complete the top five on YouTube NG Top Artistes in 2020.
Views Increase: Overall views of songs (official video and audio combined) grew by 14.15% during the tracking period, as compared to the same span in 2019. Overall view for top songs totaled 58,433,136, while in the comparable period of 2019, the sum of views was 51,188,145.
Combined, overall views for videos grew by 2.98% during the tracking period when compared to the same span in 2019. The total for overall views of top videos so far is 44,962,698 with the total for the comparable period of 2019 was 43,660,372.
Of all the top 20 songs so far, Hamisu Breaker’s ‘Jarumar Mata’ has the highest percentage of views from Nigeria when compared to global Views. Davido's 'Risky' featuring Popcaan has the least percentage of views from Nigeria when compared to global views. Justin Bieber's 'Intentions' featuring Quavo which ranks at No. 16 on YouTube NG Top Songs is not factored here due to the insignificant amount of views from Nigeria (642,000) when compared to global views (172,000,000).
For Top 20 videos, Zinolesky’s ‘Caro’ has the highest percentage of Nigerian views when compared to global Views. Moses Bliss' 'Too Faithful (Live)' has the least percentage of views from Nigeria when compared to global views.
Highest Views for a Video in a Week: Davido’s ‘1 Milli’ debut of 377,000 views on the list dated Feb. 28 – Mar 5, 2020, is the highest number of views by any video in the first half of 2020.

Highest Views for a Female Artiste in a Week: Simi’s 467.3% rise on the list dated Apr 17 – Apr 23 is the highest number of views by a female artiste in a week so far in 2020 (445,000 views). The debut of ‘Duduke’ during this tracking week accounted for this.
Highest Views for a Male Artiste in a Week: Hamisu Breaker’s 173.7% rise on the list dated May 29 – June 4 is the highest number of views by a male artiste in a week so far in 2020 (561,000 views). Hamisu Breaker’s ‘Jarumar Mata’ official video debuted during the tracking week.

Simi follows with five weeks at No. 1; Davido with three weeks at the top and Hamisu Breaker with two weeks. These are the only four artistes with multiple weeks at No. 1 on YouTube NG Top Artistes.
