A highlight of the biggest events on the TurnTable Top 50 in a year
On this day in 2020, TurnTable Charts launched the inaugural issue of the TurnTable Top 50 as the first ever aggregate music chart in Nigeria. The core mission of the publication has always been to combine all the available and significant channels of music activity in Nigeria to give a credible and all-encompassing picture of what is popular every week.
TurnTable Charts published its very first music chart on the 9th of July, 2020 – the Top Airplay Chart – which is a weekly chart of the most popular songs on radio in Nigeria every week. This was quickly followed by the Top Streaming Chart on the 13th of July, a weekly chart of the most popular songs on the three major freemium streaming platforms in the country.
The final component of what would become the TurnTable Top 50 is the TV Top Songs Chart that was launched on September 7, 2020. Having studied the data for a considerable amount of time and getting the required data for aggregation, the publication decided to launch the biggest music chart Nigeria has ever seen in terms of data points on the 9th of November, 2020 – called the TurnTable Top 50.
This is the first standard music chart in Nigeria that will combine radio airplay, TV airplay and streaming activity across major platforms.
