• Songs You Need to Hear This Week

TurnTable Charts’ Songs You Need to Hear is an editorial series highlighting some of the best songs released every week. The songs are selected by the TTC editorial team.

Every week, Nigerian artistes, both within and outside the country, release new songs that cut across different genres. Keeping tabs on this music can be quite difficult for music lovers. We at TurnTable Charts understand this difficulty and the need for a music list that gives a summary of the best releases of the week and the different types of sounds.

This would allow our followers and music lovers to have a basic idea of the songs and also a way to introduce them to new artistes weekly. The Best New Music would feature select songs from A-list artistes, upcoming and emerging artistes, as well as, Nigerian artistes in the diaspora.

For the first installment of TurnTable Charts Songs You Need to Hear, here is the list of new music you should look out for.

  1. “Rock,” Olamide

Over a decade in and Olamide is putting a new spin to “aging like fine wine” with the release of “Rock” affirming that the rapper is still very The call-and-response of Olamide and a tweaked Dj Enimoney vocals might just be the highlight of the song. Song of the Summer, perhaps? Well, it sounds like it.

  1. “Show Me Love,” KDDO featuring Ferow

One of the earliest adopters of Amapiano in Nigeria was KDDO (also known as Kiddominant) with the release of “eWallet” with Cassper Nyovest in early 2020. While the sub-genre has gone on to sweep the last quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021, there is a general sense of fatigue with the sound. However, “Show Me Love” is refreshing and instantly captivating. The song also presents KDDO as a fine performer in his own right who blends perfectly with Ferow on the track.

  2. “Odun,” KVO

KVO is the embodiment of vulnerability and honesty on “Odun”. The song “Odun” is the artiste’s first song of the year and it would be interesting to see what more this brilliant singer has to offer listeners.

  1. “Numbers Don’t Lie,” chuXchu featuring Ayo Jay

“Numbers Don’t Lie” is off chuXchu’s newly released Luv Struck EP. There is so much to love about the EP but this is easily the standout track. This is also one for the lovers as we approach that summer period.

  2. “Ball Till We Fall,” Kida Kudz featuring Bella Shmurda

Bella Shmurda’s impressive run continues on Kida Kudz’s “Ball Till We Fall.” While the two would have made an unlikely pair on paper, the two artistes are in their bag on this track.

  3. “Bussdown,” Jorja Smith featuring Shaybo

Nigerian-born UK rapper Shaybo is the star of Jorja Smith’s “Bussdown.” The song is off Jorja’s Be Right Back album, released on Friday. Shaybo showcases her brilliant use of words and rhymes, affirming that she is one MC to watch out for in the UK.

  4. “Fallin,” WeTalkSound featuring Omotayo

“Fallin” is the first song to get an official visual treatment off WeTalkSound’s Valentine’s Day album, LOFN4. The compilation album is packed with a lot of great songs, making it difficult to pick the standout track. With the new visuals, "Fallin" might just edge others on the album.

These are carefully selected songs that cut across different genres that we think you will enjoy and will be a good addition to your playlist. Emerging artistes as well as those in the diaspora who want their songs to feature on this list can send us an email to inquire about the process.
