Olamide Shares ‘Jailer’ Video
African rap/afrobeats superstar Olamidé today shares the video for “Jailer” (feat. Jaywillz), the third single off his hit album, UY Scuti. Watch here
Noted Nigerian director and frequent Olamidé collaborator Clarence Peters delivers the song’s sultry, model-filled visuals, capturing the intimate flavor of the Eskeez-produced track. UY Scuti has amassed 160 million+ streams since dropping in June via EMPIRE and the artist’s own YBNL Nation label, making it the most streamed afropop album released in 2021. “Jailer” quickly became a fan favorite from the project, thanks to Olamidé’s chemistry with Jaywillz, one of several up-and-coming acts featured on the album.
“I’m always trying to collaborate with and showcase new artists from my home country, Nigeria, when I can, and this was one of those times,” Olamidé says. “‘Jailer’ was just vibes and feelgood music from me and Jaywillz. We were just trying different sounds from around the world as I chopped verses up. I’m taking a bit of everything and just mixing it up with my Afrobeats sounds nowadays.”
UY Scuti, which also features the massive lead single “Rock” and the island-flavored afropop lullabye “Julie,” is Olamidé’s ninth album and third new music project in just over a year, following 2020’s 999 EP and Carpe Diem LP. Next month sees Olamidé return to the stage in the US for the first time since 2019, as he gets set to headline this year’s Interstitch One Africa Music Fest Oct. 1 in New York City.
Tickets for the event, at Brooklyn’s Coney Island Amphitheater, are already sold out.
