No. 1 Song of the TurnTable End of the Year Charts 2020 and Song of the Year at the 14th Headies
DJ Neptune's "Nobody" was undoubtedly a super hit in 2020 and it rightly earned the coveted position as the Number One Song in Nigeria at the TurnTable End of the Charts. "Nobody's" status as a super hit was emphasized at the just concluded 14th Headies Award where the song defeated other fantastic hits to take home the Song the Year Prize.
DJ Neptune's win proved "Nobody's" huge commercial acclaim and an accurate representation of music consumption in Nigeria. In the past, award shows have left a lot to be desired especially because they failed to accurately capture the music landscape of the year in view. To be fair to the award organizers, Nigeria lacked a standard chart that gives an accurate representation of the music consumption in Nigeria. As a result of this, award shows had to make do with available information and industry stakeholders’ opinions in their decisions.
TurnTable Charts have so far filled this vacuum by creating a standard chart that factors in all music consumption mediums to give an accurate representation of music consumption in Nigeria. The TurnTable Top 50 gives weekly data on music consumption that allows the music community to know the biggest songs in the country. This helps both award organizers and fans alike to be able to determine the biggest songs in the country and shortlist them for the appropriate awards.
It is important to note that Headies Year in Review for the 14th Headies (July 2019 to September 2020) doesn't coincide with the TurnTable 2020 Calendar (January 2020 to December 2020). However, "Nobody's" popularity in 2020, especially ahead of Davido's "FEM" which ended at No. 2 and Simi's "Duduke" at No. 5, is clear to take home the big trophy.
For the one-year anniversary of TurnTable Charts in July 2021, which will coincide with the second issue of TurnTable Magazine, TurnTable Charts will provide detailed analysis and performance of music across all platforms (radio, TV, and streaming) and genres (Afro-Pop, Hip-Hop, Afro-RnB, Alternative, Gospel, Arewa Afro-Pop, Fuji, Highlife, EDM, and more). You definitely want to be a part of this.
